Althea Milk Peel Cream Mask is one of the many new launches Althea has come up with recently!
Now if you have been seeing this go round social media, you would already be reading the rave reviews about it. Let me share my two cents with you after testing this out on the get go.
First up, I like the packaging of this product. My only gripe would be not knowing when the product is finished because there is no little window to show you when the product is running low and you could one day be left with nothing! However, the white and packaging with the blue cap is really cute. It is aesthetically pleasing and matches a lot of the Althea packaging.
When you remove the cap, you see that the Althea Milk Peel Cream Mask actually comes in a pump form. From usage, I am quite sure this is the airless pump sort of system, but do make sure you keep the lid tight after usage so as to prevent the product from drying out at the nozzle and clogging the system.
You may be surprised by the texture of the product like me, for even though the name says Cream, it actually feels a lot like a clay mask. A quick look at the ingredient list shows Kaolin (clay) as the second ingredient! So really, this is somewhat of a clay mask.
The instructions say to dampen the skin and then apply an even layer of the product to skin, massaging until a rich lather forms. I have tried this in several ways, including on bone dry skin, on damp skin and on super wet skin. It works best on damp skin (the instructions would be a no brainer) but it also lathers up on dry skin. On sopping wet skin, the product almost slides off, but upon close inspection, you can still see the bubbling effect!
I am hoping that you can see the bubbling effect in this photo. It is a really fun mask to use, but can be a little ticklish around the nose and nostril areas. I find myself being a little ticklish when it bubbles.
Here is a closer look at the bubbling effect. You can rinse it off after 30-60seconds. I left it as long as I could before washing it off. The tickling really was getting to me!
I personally found the Althea Milk Peel Cream Mask to be really gentle on the skin. Although I do not have sensitive skin, I think that people with sensitive skin would still be able to use this, because I did not get any reaction despite using it 4 days in a row (all in the name of research and testing!) If you are a newbie with acids, this is a great way to try it out because this product contains both AHA (glycolic acid) and BHA. The glycolic acid is listed quite far down the list so it is not as potent as some other acid toners, which makes it a good one to try out for beginners.
I personally really enjoyed this product despite being a relatively seasoned acid user. I like that I can use this daily without irritation and I did find my skin to look slightly brighter after each use, and definitely smoother. I did not see a difference in blackheads on my nose, but the texture on my cheeks look smoother after each usage. I do not find this drying, but would slather on hyaluronic acid immediately after use.
Althea has many launches and while some I like and others I am not too sure about or have a love-hate with (*ahem the sunscreen*) this is on my love list, so I highly recommend you check it out!
