All About Lips #143

The Balm Meet Matte Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick has a really minty taste so if you don't like mint, stay away! You have been warned. I personally like it.

The Balm is a brand that has a cheeky outlook towards makeup and their packaging reflects this.

They use cheeky lines to hint at what the product offers, such as "long-term commitment" and it is quite reminiscent of Benefit products.

Having used a few of The Balm products, I do feel a little sorry for the brand. It is an excellent brand that seems to constantly be in the shadows of Benefit products. I believe this is because Benefit has more invested in PR and marketing than The Balm. It does not make The Balm inferior to Benefit, just less exposed.

The set I bought has 2 full size The Balm Meet Matte Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick and they come in the shade Committed (nude) and Devoted (Red).

As mentioned right at the beginning, the lipstick smells of peppermint, which I like but I know that it is a personal choice. Some people really hate the scent of mint in their lip products. The retro packaging is reflected on the actual lip products and the shade names are at the bottom of the lip products.

This is definitely a matte liquid lipstick and it can be drying if you have not drank enough water or exfoliated beforehand. I find it quite similar in consistency with the Kat Von D formula but without the super long packaging and wand.

Committed : Warm nude which is easy to wear
Devoted : Blue-undertone red which instantly brightens the face

Starting off with a full face of makeup but no lip products on the face at all.

Here you can see that with a swipe of The Balm Meet Matte Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Committed, the entire makeup look is transformed. The entire look is instantly more polished.

The product itself is actually quite drying and unforgiving on the lips. Here you can see bits of dryness has been caught and lines are certainly accentuated. I find this interesting because the bolder shade does not have this trouble!

No doubt that The Balm Meet Matte Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Committed is a very pretty, wearable shade.

Now, here we have The Balm Meet Matte Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Devoted. This bright punchy red is smooth and easier to wear in that it does not feel as drying and certainly is more forgiving on lines!

This shade is comfortable to wear and more of the quality that I expect from a brand like Tha Balm so I wonder if The Balm Meet Matte Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Committed that I got in the box is a dud.

I like this red and I feel that liquid lipsticks are the easier way to wear red because it tends to be matte and stay put!

What is your experience with The Balm Meet Matte Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipsticks? Is it more like the shade Committed or the shade Devoted?
