I recently picked up this Babyliss Big Wave Wand, because I usually curl my hair with my straighteners but fancied a change.
So let's start with the unboxing. You get a total of 3 items in this big box, a mat, a glove and the actual curler.
The mat and glove are clearly extras, which help you along the way. I tend to rest the curler on the mat while waiting for it to cool off to store away. The glove is actually super helpful in minimising your chances of burnt/singed fingers. I managed to singe the thumb that was not wearing the glove sadly. While the gloves lets your hold the heated hair for a few more seconds, it will still get heated up!
You actually get to control the heat of the curler, and a rival company (GHD) states that heat at 180 degrees Celsius is sufficient to style hair without damaging it. I have rather thick hair, so will admit to using it at 195 degrees!
I bought this particular hair curler from Boots and there were all sorts on sale but this one caught my eye because it promises voluminous undone loose waves. The barrel of the curler is not circular but almost rounded rectangular!
I do not have close up shots of my hair but here are some pictures to show you the end results. I managed to achieve loose curls/waves which stayed on thanks to hairspray. I have used this several times and find it really quick to achieve an undone loose look. If you want the hair to stay that way, using styling products such as mousse and hairspray will really help.
I personally do not use hairspray unless it is a special occassion (such as this particular one) because when the curls become undone, there is a prettiness to that look too.
Verdict? I am super happy with the Babyliss Big Wave Wand!
